council-garrettMr. Dave Garrett

Mr. Garrett was elected to the Girard City Council in April 2011. He grew up working in the family International Harvester dealership business until graduating from high school. He continued his connection to agriculture through involvement in the Future Farmers of America. As a senior in high school, he received the FFA district Agri-Salesman Award and was named the Southeast Kansas Agri-Businessman of the Year, representing Southeast Kansas in the FFA “7 Stars Over Kansas” during the 1977 state convention. He has been selected as "Best-Yet" 4-H Leader in Farlington for the last 16 years and takes great pride in his association with that organization.

Following various employment positions with other agriculture machinery related companies within the region, Mr. Garrett returned home where he has been employed as manager of the NAPA Auto Parts Store in Girard since 1998.

As a community volunteer, Dave has served with “Celebrate Girard” to help bring events to the community and was recently appointed as the Alumni President of the Girard FFA. He joined the Knights of Columbus in 1980 and is a Grand Knight, serving as the financial secretary. He is the administrator of the Southeast Kansas Farm Toy Show, now in its 23rd year. Since 2000, he has been a volunteer fireman for the rural department and currently serves as Secretary-Treasurer for the department.

Dave and his wife Linda are lifelong residents of Crawford County and have been married for 32 years. They have four children; Craig, Chassity, Chris and Chad.
