The Girard Municapal Court is the judicial branch of city government. The mission of the Girard Municipal Court is to efficiently administer all matters coming into and before the Municipal Court. The Municipal Court strives to promote a high level of public confidence and sense of fairness through efficient and courteous public service that reflects well on the employees of the Court and on the City of Girard.
Municipal Court is held at 5:00pm the first and third Wednesday of the month. Court is held in City Council Chamber at the rear of City Hall located at 120 N. Ozark. The Courtroom is located just inside the Police Department entry on the south side of the City building. The Court Clerk is available to collect fines and meet with the public during the hours listed above.
Cases that are filed in Municipal Court include (but are not limited to) environmental violations, traffic violations, and violations of City ordinance. There are no jury trials conducted; a judge presides under the Code of Criminal Procedure, the Code of Municipal Courts, the Kansas Rules of Evidence and the Girard Municpal Codes and conducts all trials.
