The purpose of the Friends of Historic Girard is to discover and memorialize the history of the town of Girard, State of Kansas, and the surrounding area in the country of Crawford, to discover, purchase, commission, or otherwise procure, and to publish or otherwise preserve writings, newspapers, journals, and the like, which shed light on the history of the region; to discover, procure, and preserve physical objects that may relate to the history of the region; to establish and maintain a museum, those buildings, and improvements on land leased or owned by the society; and to hold regular meetings and other activities for the recreation and instruction of the members.

The Friends of Historic Girard provide historic driving tour maps of the city of Girard available at the Girard Public Library.
