Welcome
to Girard. On behalf of the Girard Public Works Department I would like
to welcome you and your family to Girard. We have a staff of five
employees trained in the operation of streets, sewer, and facility
repair. Listed below is some information that answers a few of the more
common questions:
-
For pothole repair, call
724-4511 and leave a message. It is our goal to respond to requests
within 48 hours.
-
When we plow snow, our first
priorities are the major roadways, hospital, school, and other
emergency offices. We make every attempt to plow the minor streets
as well. Unfortunately, we don't have the manpower to clear driveway
entrances. It is the homeowner's responsibility for the clearing of
their driveway. Also, it is greatly appreciated that you don't park
in the road, if possible, while our equipment is plowing.
-
It is the homeowner's
responsibility for their sewer lateral. If you feel however, that
there is a problem in the sewer main, please contact 724-4511.
-
Each year, we have a city-wide
clean up day. This is usually scheduled on one Saturday in April. We
offer a location which you may bring items for disposal. Certain
items such as tires, batteries, paint or appliances with Freon are
not allowed.
-
Each fall, we offer a leaf pick
up. This is usually in late November or early December, depending on
scheduling. At this time, we will come by and pick up leaves set at
the curb. Both the clean up day and leaf pick up will be announced
in the Girard Press.
-
We have a beautiful park and
swimming pool. Our park offers shelter houses and modern play
equipment. Our pool was built in 1996 and offers a very inexpensive
entertainment alternative. The pool is located at Carbon and
Magnolia streets. We also have basketball and tennis courts located
at the corner of Ozark and Carbon streets.
If
you have any questions regarding the above topics, please don't hesitate
to contact my office at 724-4511, or City Hall at 724-8918. I hope that
you will become as proud of our community as I am.
Sincerely,
Dave Crumpaker
Public Works Superintendent
